Demerit Points and the Virginia DMV: What Happens When You Get Them & How to Get Rid of Them.

Like all states, Virginia law includes a system to track the driving history of Virginia motorists. In Virginia, the system is managed by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, and it is a relatively complicated point system which allows Virginia drivers to earn safe driving points from the Virginia DMV, and which requires the Virginia DMV to assess demerit points for certain infractions. Pursuant to Virginia law, the Virginia DMV keeps a close watch over young drivers, and there are consequences for offenses committed by young drivers in Virginia.
