What does "released on summons" mean?
As I walked out of a friend's apartment, I was approached by a gentleman who asked if I had seen several police cruisers in the parking in the early morning hours a few days earlier. I had not, and when I inquired as to why he was asking, I was shocked at the answer. The gentleman went on to explain to me that there had apparently been a shooting at the apartment complex a few days ago, and he had been accused of Attempted Murder because police believed he was the shooter. He professed his innocence and to explain that he was out going door-to-door hoping to find witnesses to the shooting who could testify that he was not the person who committed this crime.
As a Criminal Defense Attorney, the idea of a man accused of Attempted Murder searching for witnesses to help him establish his innocence struck me as compelling. I just didn't think a man who had been in the parking lot a few days earlier shooting a gun would be knocking on doors, because it would present a huge risk of uncovering additional witnesses who would contact police and identify him as the perpetrator. During our conversation, I explained to him that I was a Criminal Defense Attorney, and after some discussion, he chose to retain Manassas, Virginia Criminal Defense Lawyer, T. Kevin Wilson to represent him.
