How long does the Virginia DMV report convictions and demerit points on a Virginia driving record?

Every day I see people come into Virginia courts without a Virginia Lawyer, plead guilty to Reckless Driving, Driving Without a Valid License, Driving Suspended, Speeding or some other violation, and then ask the judge not to impose points.  What these people don't know is that the Virginia courts have nothing to do with the assessment of points and that the only way to avoid the assessment of points in Virgnia is to fight the charge itself.  This is just one of the many reasons it is imperative to hire an experienced Virginia Defense Lawyer to assist you if you have been arrested or given a ticket in Virginia.

The point system used in Virginia is a complicated system in which the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles awards Virginia license holders safe driving points for being good drivers, and assesses demerit points for certain moving violations.  For more information about the rate at which safe driving points can be earned by Virginia license holders and the assessment of demerit points by the Virginia DMV, click here
