Former Rocky Mount Police Chief Pleads Guilty to Refusal; DUI Nolle Prosse

September 4, 2010, R. B. "Butch" Jenkins was charged with drunk driving and refusal to submit to a blood/breath test in Botetourt County Virginia.  Jenkins, former Rocky Mount Police Chief, was stopped when police observed his vehicle cross the center line.  He refused all filed sobriety tests and was arrested.  Wednesday, Jenkins plead guilty to the refusal charge and prosecutors agreed to nolle prosse the DUI charge.

Alexandria Police Detective Crashes Cruiser, Arrested for DUI

Eric Ratliff, a 31-year veteran of the Alexandria police department, was arrested on Saturday under suspicion of DUI.  Ratliff reportedly crashed his police cruiser into a pole and was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.  There were no other cars involved in the accident and Ratliff refused the breath test.  Ratliff has been placed on administrative leave, with pay, pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

Arrested for DUI; Man with Woman on His Lap Crashes into Game Warden

Mickey Ray Poston, 46-years-old, and Rhonda Michelle Hess, 39-years-old, were taken to Bristol Regional Medical Center by helicopter following a head-on collision with a game warden at Hungry Mother State Park in Marion, VA on New Year’s Eve.  Conservation Police Officer Daniel Craig Hall suffered minor injuries and was taken to Smyth County Hospital.  Poston was ultimately charged with drunk driving.  Interestingly, at the time of the crash, Hess was seated in Poston’s lap.  Virginia State Police Sgt, Steve E. Lowe: “As to what they were engaged in, you can drawn your own conclusions.  She was on his lap – we’re going to leave it at that.”  Lowe could not confirm whether Hess was facing the street or Poston, however reportedly “she had back injuries likely from the impact of the steering wheel.”

VA Beach Mother, Not Guilty of Child Endangerment, Guilty of DUI

In August, Heather Maiers was arrested for DUI in Chesapeake.  She was stopped for going 50 mph in a 35 mph zone.  Maiers had her 3-month old baby in the car and a BAC of .13%.  Monday, Chesapeake Judge A. Bonwill Shockley found Maiers guilty of the DUI and not guilty of the child endangerment charge.  Shockley considered the 2006 DUI conviction of Maiers in sentences as requested by Prosecutor Gordon Ufkes.  Maiers received a $750 fine and a 6-month jail sentence, with all but 20 days suspended.
