On Friday, July 8, 2011, a trash truck flipped over on Rt. 7 west of Round Hill in Loudoun County, VA. This Monday morning crash turned into an all day cleanup operation, as the truck spilled diesel fuel and hydraulic fluid onto the road.

Police indicated that James R. Ashby, of Winchester, was traveling westbound on Rt. 7 when his trash truck went off the road and turned onto its side. The crash occurred around 7:30 a.m. near Yellow School House Road.

About 75 gallons of diesel fuel and a damaging amount of hydraulic fluid spilled during the crash, causing the Loudoun County Hazardous Material Response Unit and a commercial contractor to be called to the scene for proper cleanup.

Loudoun County emergency crews were worried that the fluids could pollute the stream that was near the accident site, so they closed down the lanes in the area for cleanup - allowing one lane in each direction to remain open.

The 56-year-old trash truck driver was injured in this crash and was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital for medical care.

Police indicated that he was charged with reckless driving in Virginia.
