Woman Charged With Reckless Driving After Hitting VA Troopers Car on I-95

Posted on Apr 22, 2011
On April 6, 2011, an Annapolis woman, driving a Volvo station wagon, crashed into two police cars Wednesday afternoon. According to authorities, she drove her car off the road on I-95 and collided into two Virginia State Police cars and another stopped car.

This Prince William County accident happened following a traffic stop, when a policeman pulled over a Toyota on the northbound lanes of I-95, near Dale City. Another state trooper stopped to help the other police officer with the traffic stop. The law enforcement officials were outside their vehicles when the Volvo ran into the patrol cars and the Toyota.

After the Volvo hit those vehicles, it was thrown across the northbound lanes where it came to a stop in the median. This accident occurred around 2:30 p.m., but the northbound lanes were not re-opened until around 4:30 p.m.

Jody E. Daniels, the Volvo driver, and her 12-year-old son were injured in this crash and were transported to Potomac Hospital for medical treatment. Neither of the officers nor the Toyota occupants was hurt in the accident.
The officers involved in this crash are trooper S. Kahn and trooper J.T. Mahalik. The name of the driver of the Toyota has not been released.

Daniels was charged with reckless driving in Virginia following this crash.
