The Supreme Court says: The Confrontation Clause is binding and cannot be disregarded because it makes prosecuting cases more burdensome for the government

Lastly, lawyers for the prosecution essentially argued that the Supreme Court of the United States should ignore the Confrontation Clause to make the system run more efficiently and facilitate prosecution - another argument which has surfaced in Virginia courts.  The Court said that the Confrontation Clause, like many other constitutional rights and protections, makes prosecuting cases more burdensome, but it is binding and cannot be disregarded for the sake of convenience.
