Pedestrian Hospitalized After Virginia DUI Car Crash

Posted on Dec 01, 2010
On Friday, November 26, 2010, a pedestrian was hit by a drunk driver as she was crossing the street. Police say the accident took place near Stellar Bank on Ohio Street in Salem, Virginia.

The female pedestrian, from Waynesboro, Virginia, was crossing Ohio Street around 4 p.m. when she was struck by a car. Police say the 33-year-old pedestrian suffered injuries and was rushed to the hospital Friday evening.

Allen Steven Howard, the 58-year-old driver, struck the pedestrian with his 1990 Toyota Corolla. Police say that the driver, of Waynesboro, was going about 25 miles per hour when he hit the pedestrian.

Kimberly Renee Dudley, the pedestrian, suffered broken bones when she rolled onto the hood of the vehicle and then dropped to the asphalt. The Waynesboro First Aid Crew rushed her to Augusta Health for medical care, and then she was transferred to the University of Virginia Medical Center for treatment.

Sgt. Brian Edwards said, "In Virginia...drivers have to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk." Police arrested Howard with driving under the influence of alcohol and charged him with DUI; however, he is free on bond.

There was no update on the condition of Dudley at the time of this article.

We wish Kimberly Renee Dudley a full and quick recovery following this Virginia DUI accident.
