Virginia Beach Driver Sentenced to 15 Years for DUI Manslaughter

Posted on Nov 24, 2010
On January 19, a man driving a BMW plowed head-on into another vehicle, killing both people in the other car. Christopher D. Dockiewicz, the 45-year-old driver, of Virginia Beach, admitted to driving drunk, losing control of his vehicle and speeding.

Dockiewicz was driving on Princess Anne Road close to Seaboard Road, when he crashed into a vehicle carrying Anthony and Jean Mary Tonking. Mr. and Mrs. Tonking were in town from England to visit their daughter and grandchildren in Virginia Beach. Sadly, they both died in this tragic head-on collision.

Witnesses say Dockiewicz was probably traveling between 77 - 100 miles per hour, and was traveling to pick up his son from school.

In August, he admitted to drunk driving and pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol in Virginia. He had no prior DUI charges, but his BAC was well over the .08 legal limit on the day of the deadly accident.

On Monday, November 1, 2010, a Virginia judge sentenced Dockiewicz to 15 years for DUI manslaughter.
